Tarpon

Over the past several decades, Tampa Bay has consistently demonstrated its status as one of the premier locations for Silver King fishing along Florida's Gulf Coast.

The traditional Tarpon season typically runs from April to August, with opportunities for excellent fishing beginning as early as March. In particularly favorable years, this season may extend to 7 or 8 months, providing a significant advantage for anglers. 

The bay is renowned for its robust summer Tarpon fishery, with a peak period from late May to July characterized by abundant Tarpon activity. During the height of their migration, from May to July, most Tarpon weigh between 80 and 140 pounds, while larger specimens, reaching up to 200 pounds, can also be found in the bay during the summer months. 

Anglers familiar with Tarpon know that these resilient fish can put up a formidable fight, typically lasting between 20 to 40 minutes. It is advisable to conclude the battle swiftly to ensure the fish's survival and to minimize the risk of attracting nearby sharks. 

When booking a Tarpon charter, anticipate an average of 2 to 7 hookups per trip, influenced by your skill level and a touch of luck. All Tarpon fishing is conducted on a catch-and-release basis, except for those seeking an IGFA record, which necessitates a special tag. Best of luck if you are pursuing that goal!

Redfish

Nobody does Redfishing quite like Florida. Undoubtedly a skinny-water favorite, the resident Redfish is happy to chase down a plug any day of the year. With unparalleled stamina and a reel-smoking tenacity, Redfish is certainly the king of the Tampa Bay flats.

In the Tampa Bay region, the majority of Reds range from 15 to 35 inches in length, with the legal size limit subject to variation, and the fishing season remains open throughout the year. During most of the year, these fish are found in shallow grass flats, typically no deeper than 3 feet.

While many fish enter a state of deep hibernation during winter, the tailing Reds in Tampa Bay continue to be quite active, although they tend to move to deeper waters, generally between 4 and 8 feet, during this period.

Redfish often share habitats with Trout and Snook, but for those seeking larger Reds, it is advisable to venture a few miles offshore or near the ship channels. Happy hunting!

Snook

Florida's iconic game fish, the Snook, is a resilient species found throughout the Bay. Other Inshore Species

Preferring colder waters, these fish can be challenging to extract from the sea bottom and typically reach lengths of up to 20 inches, with larger individuals occasionally encountered.

• St. Petersburg. You can do just about anything in St. Petersburg. Go fishing from the east side of the city, and you’ll find anything from Redfish and Trout to Tarpon and Sharks. Go west, and the abundant Gulf of Mexico is on your doorstep.

• Tampa. In Tampa, both freshwater and saltwater fisheries are a stone’s throw away. Saltwater aficionados will love the Sheepshead, Redfish, Black Drum, and Snook action. On the freshwater front, there are plenty of lakes and reservoirs full of Bass and Crappie.
